The history of Holtzlander Racing

Darrell, Nick and Dennis Sr. Racing at Berlin Raceway in August 2008

Holtzlander racing all started back in the early 60's when Dennis Holtzlander Sr began racing at the Speedrome in Comstock Park. As the years passed he raced at tracks From Berlin Raceway to South Bend in cars from hobby stock's to late model's. Then in the late 70's early 80's he took some time off to spend it with his family. When his kids were starting their own new adventures life brought them, Dennis began thinking about racing again. Then in 1988 Dennis and his wife Gloria bought a street stock from a family friend and raced it the last few nights at Berlin with the help of 2 son's Denny Jr and Darrell.

That following year Dennis wanted to take a new racecar out to Berlin, so thru the winter months Denny Jr and Darrell helped build a new car.

Dennis Sr continued to race thru the 90's having fun in the sportsman division winning several B features and finishing as high as 3rd in the sportsman b division standings, towards the later part of the 90's he began racing in the Super Stock division at Berlin Raceway. All thru the 90's Dennis raced at Crystal Motor Speedway (Dealer's Choice) and Kalamazoo Speedway (Super Shoe National's picking up 3 heat wins)

So Dennis and Darrell started searching for a division for the Grandkids to race in, while attending the races at Crystal Motor Speedway he found an excellent beginner division for the grandkids along with Darrell and himself to race in, the 4 cylinder division. Only front wheel drive and 2500cc motors and the car must remain stock. So far this has been a very enjoyable adventure. We would recommend this type of car for anyone interested in racing that doesn't want to spend thousand's of dollars.

In the 2008 season Dennis and Darrell both competed at Berlin Raceway in the Burnips 4 Cylinder Division. Both of them ran respectfully thru-out the season.

In 2009 Darrell raced in only 2 events and finished 3rd after starting in the 24th position in the "B" feature and had a 15th place finish in the "A" feature the following week after starting 25th in this highly competetive Division.

On October 29th 2009 Dennis Holtzlander Sr passed away due to complications with pnuemonia. He will be sadly missed and never forgotten. He was a great leader, husband, father and friend. We love you DAD. God Speed.

Darrell's 2010 Season was dedicted to Dennis, because he would be driving in his dad's final car he had built. Thru-out the season Darrell would rack up a season that he had always wanted to have. 14 top 10 Qualifying attempts and 11 of them that were top 5 efforts.

Features

9 top 10's

4 top 5's

And at the end of the season Darrell raced in the first ever Super Shoe Mini Nationals, at Kalamazoo Speedway. Where he would post a 3rd place qualifying effort out of 66 other drivers. In the feature he would get caught up in an accident and came home in the 9th position out of 20 in the Main Event.
